Samsung Launches Galaxy Tab 7.7

Samsung Electronics has launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 – the world’s first tablet to feature the brilliant Super AMOLED Plus display. The powerful and most portable device with a 1.4GHz dual core processor measures just 7.89 millimeters thin and weighs only 335 grams (12 ounces).

 Samsung Pakistan’s Managing Director Mr. Hee Chang Yee said; “It reflects Samsung’s commitment to offering consumers the most choice in mobile tablets. The Galaxy Tab 7.7’s WXGA Super AMOLED plus display and powerful features are the pillars of our technological supremacy, offering vivid images, crisp sound and brilliant colors experience”.

The stylish metal casing and rounded edges design give a sleek look. The HSPA+ 21 Mbps network enables faster uploads and downloads, supporting Wi-Fi Channel Bonding connection and data transfer at twice the speed. Powered by a 1.4 GHz dual core application processor, it gives seamless multitasking and superior multimedia performance. The 5,100 mAh battery provides up to 10 hours of video playback time.

 It is powered by Android™ 3.2 Honeycomb, optimized for a 7-inch tablet with a new compatibility zoom mode, while it also supports MicroSD cards of up to 32 GB for direct media files transfer. Samsung’s TouchWiz UX includes a Live Panel menu and a “Mini Apps” tray of commonly used features, which can be launched while other major applications are in use. It includes a 1080p full HD playback, DivX with multi codec. A Universal Remote Control functionality can control the entire home entertainment system – TV, Set top box, DVD, Blu-ray player and AV audio system.

 Samsung’s Hub Services are also available in many markets, offering easy access to content including millions of games, eBooks, music and more, with lightning fast graphics. It is possible to call privately in public places with Receiver Mode without a headset or BT. The device also includes Google Mobile Services providing access to 250,000 applications.

The other One phones, the X runs on new Android 4.0  operating system, which means it’s up to date. Most of the key benefits of Android 4.0 remain intact, but HTC has heavily modified the design of the OS with “Sense 4.0,” with the goal of making it look more like its Android 2.3 phones. Some cosmetic changes are fine, but others are a bit puzzling, like the new widget and homescreen modifier, and the new multitasking screen. At times, it feels like HTC is being different just for the sake of it, which is never good.
Still, the good outweighs the bad. Because this runs Android 4.0, users will have many stability improvements. If you can find its  new location, the data usage monitoring feature makes a handy way to stay under your  data cap, and you’ll notice many other small enhancements, too.

Sadly, those features were the few bright spots in Sense. The overlay feels dated compared to the plain Ice Cream Sandwich interface, and certain things (like changing the phone's wallpaper) now require you to dig through extra menus to find them.The phone comes with a handful of preinstalled software, including AT&T's suite of mobile apps and the MOG Music app. Some of these applications could be useful to people, but it's a shame that you are not given the option to be able to uninstall them. Ice Cream Sandwich does provide a way to disable these apps and prevent them from showing up in your app drawer, but they’re not completely deleted from your phone and thus still take up precious memory.

Thinnest Smart Phone: iPhone 4 or Samsung Galaxy S II

According to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), Apple’s iPhone 4 is the thinnest smartphone in the world and not Samsung Galaxy S II as is often believed. There have been claims from both the sides that theirs is the slimmest smartphone, but ASA has now given the final word on the matter.

Samsung Galaxy S II is 8.71 mm thin, which is slimmer than the iPhone 4’s uniform depth of 9.3 mm. From this point of view, Samsung has indeed won the competition of being skinny. But it has bulges at the top (for camera lens) and bottom (for speaker, antenna). Considering these bulges, Samsung Galaxy S II becomes 9.91 mm, which means it gets thicker than iPhone 4. But on the average, Samsung Galaxy indeed happens to be thinner.

The war of claims between the two smartphone giants is an on-going phenomenon. The interesting thing is that their brand war penetrates into their users as well. Since both brands are leaders in their own rights, there is no brand-consciousness involved, but a measure of pride about which brand is better than the other.

It is all about which brand has a better marketing strategy to reach the maximum number of target audience. Apple told ASA that, “consumers would not be interested in the thinnest part of the device, but in its overall measurements, as these would, for example, affect whether the device could fit into a pocket or a purse.” Samsung Galaxy S II had no choice but to agree with this technical detail.
